About Us

History

 

Resource Geosciences was incorporated in 2000 and is directed by its founders: Dr. Matthew Gray, President; Ing. Fernando Oviedo; and Ing. Mario Castellanos. Geologists and engineers by training, and explorationists by experience, the founders have over fifty years of international exploration experience gained through employment with Placer Dome, BHP, Newmont, Cambior, Peñoles, and Frisco. Resource Geosciences is a multi-cultural team, and is able to effectively conduct business in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and the directors have done so in a variety of operating environments including Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, and the United States.

Matthew D Gray, Ph.D., CPG #10688

President and Founding Partner

Dr. Gray holds degrees from the Colorado School of Mines (B.Sc. - Geological Engineering; Ph.D. - Geology, with Minor in Mineral Economics) and the University of Arizona (M.Sc. - Geosciences). He is an A.I.P.G. Certified Professional Geologist (C.P.G. 10688) and a CSA NI43-101 Qualified Person. His twenty one years of international exploration experience include  directing generative exploration programs and managing advanced project evaluations for Placer Dome and Cambior in the United States, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Papua New Guinea, and Mexico. In addition to technical skills and experience related to minerals and water exploration and development, Dr. Gray has successfully managed mine permitting, water rights, and community relocation issues related to mine development in Mexico. He has extensive experience in project development and resource/reserve estimation.  Dr. Gray is bilingual in English and Spanish and resides in Mexico.


Dr. Gray's academic studies were of carbonate-hosted polymetallic replacement deposits and of Archean gold deposits and he has published peer-reviewed academic papers on both.

In addition to his responsibilities as President and Director of Resource Geosciences, Dr. Gray acts as a Qualified Person as per the definitions of CSA NI-43-101 for programs conducted on behalf of clients.  


    

Mario Castellanos T. - Founding Partner

Ing. Castellanos is a graduate of the Geology Department of the University of Sonora in Hermosillo, Mexico. His academic thesis described the relationships between differing intrusive phases and formation of the skarn deposit at La Negra, Queretero.  Prior to co-founding Resource Geosciences his 14 years of professional exploration experience were spent with Placer Dome, BHP,  Peñoles and Frisco, evaluating precious and base metal projects in Latin America.   In addition to his responsibilities as Director of Resource Geosciences, Ing. Castellanos acts as project manager for programs conducted on behalf of clients.



 

Luis Fernando Oviedo L. - Founding Partner

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ing. Oviedo is a graduate of the Department of Geology of the University of Sonora in Hermosillo, Sonora. His academic thesis described the structural contact between Precambrian and Jurassic terranes in Sonora, and the relationship between thrust faults, shear zones, and gold mineralization. Prior to co-founding Resource Geosciences, Ing. Oviedo’s career encompassed 14 years evaluating projects in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and the United States for Placer Dome, Peñoles, and Frisco. During his professional career he has acquired extensive experience in evaluation and management of advanced projects.  Ing. Oviedo is bilingual Spanish-English and resides in Mexico.
